Administration Task 1 Performance Assessment (BJN1)
2025 Western Governors University
A. Emerging or Evolving Trend at Fielder Medical Center
Trend: Implementing virtual care services. With telehealth, Fielder Medical Center has
a greater chance of meeting the demands of their population and organizational
goals.
Relating to Organizational Goals: With telehealth, Fielder will give patients an easier
way to access care without having to leave their home. Not only does it give
patients the ability to receive care if they are unable to drive to appointments, but
it also addresses the staffing shortage Fielder is facing. With telehealth, providers
will be more productive and there is diminished need for administrative staff as
most patient scheduling and health information can be filled out online. Moving
towards a greater use of technology also gives Fielder the opportunity to increase
their communication habits with patients. This directly aligns with Fielder Medical
Center’s goals of improving patient communication, increasing access to care, and
addressing staffing shortages. To take advantage of the telehealth trend, more
appointments can be facilitated online, thus reducing the need for in-person care.
Additionally, for someone like Diego Garcia, receiving access to telehealth options
makes getting the care in a rural area more sustainable.
A2. Challenges
, 1. Technological Infrastructure: Unfortunately in rural areas, it is known that
having strong internet connection is a barrier to getting online and
having it be an enjoyable experience. Without a strong connection,
adequate care can be hindered.
○ Solution: Fielder Medical Center can work alongside government
bodies (FCC's Rural Health Care Program) and private companies like
StarLink to deploy additional satellites. For individuals in these
communities, Fielder can create a grant program to subsidize the
upfront costs of StarLink to help patients in the area stay connected to
get the care they need.
2. Patient Adaptation and Digital Literacy: In some cases, particularly with
geriatric patients and those with low IQs will have a hard time engaging
with the telehealth platform because of their low technical proficiency. This
initial struggle might keep them away from the system entirely and
adoption can remain low.
○ Solution: Create and foster a team internally and externally with
volunteers that have a focus on hosting workshops and decimating
patient education on the use of telemedicine services. It would be
crucial for this team to be accompanied by additional technical
support staff during the first initial virtual appointment. Once the
patient is proficient, the additional resource can be released and
moved to another task.
A3. Ethical Consideration
Digital inequality. At times, there are going to be some patients (as I mentioned in
A1 and A2) that will not have the same access to the telehealth services because
they do not understand the system or they do not have the internet bandwidth (if
any) to complete a telehealth visit.
