QUESTION 1
(a) Discuss the four parts of the plot of the novel listed below:
(i) Introduction:
The introduction is the beginning of the story. This is where we meet the main
characters and learn about the setting — where and when the story takes place. The
writer also gives us a hint of the problem or the situation that the story will focus on. For
example, in a Xitsonga novel, you might be introduced to a young boy who wants to go
to the city to find a job.
(ii) Rising action:
This is when things start to happen. The main character faces challenges or problems
that need to be solved. These events build up the tension and keep the reader
interested. For example, the boy might struggle to find work in the city, and this brings
more problems like hunger and loneliness.
(iii) Climax:
The climax is the most exciting part of the story. This is the turning point — where the
biggest challenge or decision happens. It’s where we feel the most emotion or
suspense. For example, the boy may be forced to choose between returning home with
nothing or staying in the city to continue struggling.
