Forceps for extractions - lower - 73 forceps - lower molars (LR/L6,7,8)

Patient position for extractions - Upper - head between elbow and shoulder (move chair
to highest it goes, patient at 60% back to upright
Lowers - head at elbow height, patient sat straight up
Operator position for extractions - Stood in front right for upper right, upper left and

Supporting hand positioning for extractions - Upper right and upper left - finger and

Extra-oral examination station - recommended approach: - 1. PPE - mask and visor, wash

2. Introduction to patient and explanation of procedure
3. Oral history - ask patient if they have experienced any pain/swelling around the head/neck
4. Visual inspection - soft tissue lesions (face, vermillion border, perioral), signs of ill health,
symmetry (in front, behind and above patient)
5. Muscles of mastication - looking for tenderness or spasm - bilateral palpation of masseter and
temporalis
6. Lymph nodes - state each as you progress
7. TMJ and mandibular opening - extent of opening, any deviations on opening/closing, check
TMJ for clicks/crepitus, any pain?
8. Other facial features - assess eyes/ears/neck (changes/scars/swelling)
Lymph node examination - Submental and submandibular lymph nodes
Pre-auricular and post-auricular lymph nodes
Occipital lymph nodes
