Questions and CORRECT Answers
Plural nouns - CORRECT ANSWER - adding the letter '-s', '-es', '-ies', etc. to the end of the
word
subject verb agreement - CORRECT ANSWER - subjects and verbs must agree with one
another in number (singular or plural). If a subject is singular, the verb must also be singular and
vice versa (ex: The doctoral student and the committee members write every day. The earnings
for this quarter exceed expectations.)
simple sentence - CORRECT ANSWER - one independent clause. (ex: The train was late.)
complex sentence - CORRECT ANSWER - A sentence with one independent clause and at
least one dependent clause. (ex: Because my coffee was too cold, I heated it in the microwave.
Although he was wealthy, he was still unhappy.
She returned the computer after she noticed it was damaged.)
compound sentence - CORRECT ANSWER - a sentence with two or more independent
clauses, often joined by one or more conjunctions (FANBOYS) (ex: The pirate captain lost her
treasure map, but she still found the buried treasure. My favorite sport is skiing. I am vacationing
in Hawaii this winter. I want to lose weight, yet I eat chocolate daily.)
complex-compound sentence - CORRECT ANSWER - Contains at least two independent
clauses and at least one dependent clause. (ex. When I grow up, I want to be a ballerina, and my
mom is proud of me.
I will get to watch television, but first, I have to clean up the dishes after we finish eating.
We won the game, but my uniform was muddy because it rained the entire time.)
