team holds one of its nightly practices. I was in the middle of a drill and the coaches
were impressed with how well I was doing.
“Way to keep up, Leah!”
“Thanks, coach!”
I went back in line and waited my turn for another 1v1 drill. When I got up to the
front, I was going against a girl named Genna, who I go to school with. Genna had been
harassing me at school for over a month. She started a romantic relationship with my
boyfriend and had made my 8th-grade year torture. The coach blew her whistle, and we
went against one another. I got the ball from her, and everyone was cheering. I went to
do a move when all the sudden she put her hand out and attacked me at the throat. I
lost my breath, and fire started igniting through my whole body. I was tired of her
attitude towards me and now that she has physically attacked me, I wanted payback.
However, I could hear my mom’s voice in my head and knew she would be
disappointed if I didn’t react to this girl’s provocation.
“What you going to do about it, Leah! No one wants you here! Your boyfriend
doesn’t even want you anymore! Why you think he spends more time with me Leah!”
“Shut up, Genna!” I screamed back.
I charged after her thinking of everything she put me through. When I got up in her
face, I put my fist in the air ready to attack, but then I took a deep breath and lowered it.
I told her she wasn’t worth my time and walked over to the bench to get water.
