Psychology of Leadership

Question 1.1: Moral Leadership (14 Marks)

Moral leadership refers to leading with integrity, ethical values, and a commitment to
fairness and justice. A moral leader ensures that their decisions and actions positively
impact their organization and subordinates, fostering an ethical work environment.

Acting like a moral leader involves:

 Transparency and Accountability: A moral leader is open about their actions
and decisions. In the case study, Mr. Superhero acted unethically by taking
unauthorized leave despite being in a leadership position. A moral leader would
have followed company policies and set an example for subordinates.
 Selflessness: Moral leaders prioritize the needs of their team over personal
gains. However, Mr. Superhero used the training budget for personal
development instead of investing in his team’s growth, displaying self-
centeredness.
 Guidance and Mentorship: A moral leader supports and develops their team.
Mr. Superhero failed to provide proper handover and training to his staff, leaving
them confused about their roles.
 Fairness and Respect: Ethical leaders treat employees with dignity. Mr.
Superhero displayed favoritism and targeted a direct report for demotion, which
is a clear example of moral failure.
