What type of feedback do you struggle with?
Receiving feedback is an important part of my personal, academic, and professional life. I try to
stay open minded when I am receiving feedback from others. I prefer feedback that is detailed
and honest. I do not like feedback that seems passive-aggressive, malicious, or overly critical.
Sometimes it can be hard to accept feedback about sensitive topics. Feedback can be used as an
opportunity to reflect on things that I need to improve.

It is important to be clear and detailed when someone is giving feedback to employees. Vague
feedback is no good, it is better to add context to the point you are trying to make. Before you
give negative feedback, always say something positive first. For example, “You work
performance has been great lately, also be sure that you are meeting all deadlines.” A fantastic
way to build a relationship with employees is to be open to receiving criticism in return. I avoid
saying things in a harsh or over-critical way because sometimes it is hard to grasp the point of a
conversation when the tone is malicious. Lastly, it is important to avoid criticizing employees in
public.
