Task 1 PowerPoint Critique
Scenario selected: Scenario 1
Section B: Using the information in your chosen scenario, critique that scenario’s
PowerPoint presentation.
Explain why two structural, content, or design components from each slide are ineffective or
inappropriate for communicating the information, including specific examples from all eight
slides.
Common Structural Components
Common Design Components
Design
Slide 1 Due to the severity of the cybersecurity breach, the graphics on the intro slide
are both in poor taste. Fireworks are more of a celebratory device, and a lock
conveys security and protection. Neither of the images are appropriate to the
topic of the theme because personal identifiable information (PII), financial
information, and sensitive customer data were leaked due to a cybersecurity
1. breach, which makes this entire design inappropriate for the topic of discussion.
Due to the type of discussion, the current theme of the slide is inappropriate.
After removing the graphics, the theme should be set to match the rest of the
slides with the same color scheme and use the same font. It should represent a
more formal setting and keep the colors simple and passive. The banner should
remain simple, just large enough to provide enough information on the topic of
the presentation.
2. Content
The first issue regarding content is the title of the PowerPoint. The title does not

convey the full purpose of the presentation. It is not solely about cybersecurity,
but about the breach that occurred and how it will affect the audiences involved
in resolving the issue. The title should state the purpose of the presentation,
which is to investigate, take action, mitigate damage, and prevent future
incidences. This title does not currently forecast the structure of the
presentation.
The next component is who the presenter is. There is no name of the presenter,
nor their title within the company. To convey a level of experience, the presenter
should be someone who is higher in the organization of the company. It should
not be entry level analyst or someone who has only been around for a short
time, which would be entirely ineffective.
Structural
Slide 2 This slide would benefit from a two-column format. By removing the graphic,
the presenter can more information that may be needed to pass on to the
viewers, and instead of overloading with paragraph, simplify the layout by
dividing it up and putting more information in short, simple phrases. Currently,
these paragraphs may make it difficult for the viewer to read in a reasonable

amount of time.
An ineffective aspect of this slide is the lack of steps taken to remediate the
situation. Each step could be divided into one or two more steps, reducing the
number of words per sentence and spreading the information out more to make
it easier for everyone to understand their role. Removing unnecessary jargon
and shortening up the sentences would improve the slide.
2. Content
The title of the slide is “Steps Taken”, but that is inaccurate. A more accurate
title for the slide would “Steps that need to be taken” or “Future steps” to
convey that they have not been taken yet, but the current plan is to follow this
course of action to step by step until a satisfactory conclusion is reached. Each
action is in the future, as directed by the texts for each action. This can be
misleading for someone who is expecting progress.
Each step is also the length of a short paragraph. The viewer should just be
seeing a brief overview of each step, while the presenter describes in full detail
what each step will be, when they plan on starting it, and estimated time of
completion. It is more beneficial for reader attention that the information shown
is short and to the point. By reducing the number of words to just key words,
the viewer’s focus will be on the presenter, allowing them to hear and
understand what is being said, and formulate any questions as the presenter is
