What is PUPPS? pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPS). PUPPS is
the most common cutaneous disease during pregnancy, affecting approximately 1 in 200 patients.

, are usually localized to the abdomen, but they can spread to affect the entire trunk and
extremities. As noted in this photograph the lesions spare the umbilicus. They also spare the
palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Although the disease is self-limited and resolves quickly
after delivery, patients usually need symptomatic relief of their intense pruritus. Treatment
options for mild symptoms include low to mid-potency topical steroids, first generation
antihistamines, and/or bland emollients. Severe symptoms usually require high potency topical
