Question 1: Ethical Guidelines in the Workplace
Definition of Workplace Ethics
Workplace ethics refers to the moral principles that guide behavior and decision-making
in a professional setting. These principles include honesty, integrity, accountability,
fairness, and respect for laws and regulations. Ethics help to ensure that employees
act in a responsible and trustworthy manner, creating a fair and corruption-free work
environment.
In public service, ethical behavior is even more important because government officials
handle sensitive matters that affect people’s rights and access to essential services.
Violating ethical standards can lead to loss of public trust, legal consequences, and
damage to an organisation’s reputation.
Application of Ethical Guidelines
1. Integrity & Honesty
The Home Affairs official failed to uphold honesty by accepting a bribe in
exchange for fraudulently securing an ID document.
Integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, but in this
case, the official deliberately engaged in corruption.
