a primary grievance of the American colonists and the 13 colonies which was one of the
major causes of the American Revolution.

, Stamp Act - ✔✔Internal tax on legal documents. There was massive resistance and mass
violence along with the boycotts. Colonists stuck with the slogan "no taxation without
representation." The colonists thought that they should be taxed locally not foreignly.
Stamp Act Congress - ✔✔1765. A group of representatives from nine colonies that met
in New York (in 1765, obviously). They resolved that only their own elected
representatives had the legal authority to approve taxes.
Townshend Act(s) - ✔✔Tax on paint, paper, lead, glass, and tea, implemented by the
Parliament in 1767.
Committees of Correspondence - ✔✔Rallied colonial opposition against the British
policy and establishment of a political union among the 13 colonies.
Boston Massacre - ✔✔This was a confrontation between British troops and a mob. This
led to the death of some unarmed man. (This event basically showed that the British
had killed people for no reason.)
Boston Tea Party - ✔✔This was when Bostonians disguised themselves as Native
Americans and boarded the British ships and dumped 342 barrels/chests of tea into the
harbor. This was their response to the Tea Act.
Intolerable Acts - ✔✔1775. Martial law was implemented. A series of acts occurred:
Boston Port Bill, Quebec Act, Administration of Justice Act, Massachusetts Bay
Regulation Act, and the New Quartering Act.
First Continental Congress - ✔✔September 1774. 55 delegates met in Philadelphia for
the First Continental Congress in responses to the Coercive Acts.
Second Continental Congress - ✔✔A convention of delegates from the 13 colonies that
met in 1775. It managed the colonial war effort and moved towards independence. In
1776, it adopted the Declaration of Independence.
