Read this article, “In Sneaker Wars, It’s Also Curry (Under Armour) vs. James (Nike)” (you can also view
the PDF here), on the use of celebrity endorsements in the competition between Nike and Under
Armour.
Think about a time when a celebrity endorsement influenced you to buy a product in the last five years.
In the discussion thread, describe the following:
1. The product and the celebrity endorsing it
2. How the endorsement influenced your decision to buy the product
1) I recently purchased a pair of Nike shoes after being persuaded by a celebrity endorsement.
LeBron James, a basketball player, is also a Nike shoe endorser. He has long been a favorite of
mine. I've always admired both his work ethic and his basketball prowess. So, I decided to
purchase a pair of Nike shoes when I noticed that he was endorsing them. The shoes he
endorsed had a nice style and were also very comfortable. I also showed him my support by
purchasing the shoes that LeBron James was advocating.
2) Celebrity endorsements can be compelling in persuading consumers to purchase a product. If a
product is recommended by someone I respect, I am more likely to buy it. People put more faith
in celebrities than in advertising. Additionally, a celebrity's endorsement of a product will
increase consumer interest. LeBron James' endorsement deal with Nike shows how wise the
company is. One of the most well-liked athletes in the world, LeBron James, has a sizable
fanbase. Thanks to LeBron James' endorsement, Nike will sell a lot of shoes. Other businesses
should also consider utilizing celebrity endorsements to market their goods.
