NR605 Week 2 discussion

a. Describe at least TWO elements your frame
would include. Provide support from at least
one scholarly source.

The therapeutic frame, characterized by therapist abstinence, anonymity, and neutrality,
ensures focus on the client and consistent routines. This framework is crucial for maintaining a
safe and effective therapeutic environment.

1. Confidentiality:
Psychologists uphold confidentiality as a crucial ethical principle, ensuring a safe environment
for discussing sensitive information without fear of revealing it. Confidentiality is a crucial
aspect of therapeutic therapy, ensuring client consent and adherence to the APA's Ethical
Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (APA, 2019).
2. Adherence to schedule:
Adherence in the therapeutic frame involves regular sessions, a stable location, and a
consistent fee, providing a predictable structure that fosters client safety and security. The
therapist and the client must agree on the terms and conditions of the schedule. If the
client is not able to make it to the appointment, they must notify the therapist in advance
to avoid loss of wages. The therapist must do the same to avoid wasting the client's time.
b. Describe how your frame might be altered for
ONE of the following situations:
Your client is a minor.

Therapists should consider a child's age, maturity, and understanding when establishing a
therapeutic frame, requiring parental consent and communicating confidentiality limits.
Treating minors with mental health can be challenging with scheduling
adherence especially if the child lives in different households with
different parents. Sometimes school time interferes with
psychotherapy sessions.
According to (Mehra et a. al, 2021), youth experiencing psychotherapy face access
barriers such as time, cost, scheduling, and transportation difficulties, which can lead to
discontinuation and take away from their classroom time.

C. Identify at least TWO strategies that meet the
ethical and legal requirements for a client who
frequently misses appointments without notice and
has failed to pay for the last four sessions. The client
has received psychotherapy for six months.

1. Clear Communication: The therapist needs to make it obvious what is expected of them
and what happens if they miss appointments or don't pay. A formal agreement
outlining the terms of payment and cancellation policy may be part of this.
