NR 703 Week 4 Discussion: Leading through innovation
1. Create an environment that fosters innovation and
creativity.
The ability to actively seek and develop new methods, technologies,
and tools to promote health, prevent diseases, improve the quality of
care of patients, and apply innovation to work through teamwork and
reasonable support channels is nurses' innovation ability (Yan et al.,
2018). As nurses, we are critical thinkers on the front lines of care
delivery who often innovate by identifying more efficient processes
that we use to improve clinical practice. Gao et al. (2020) explain
how we use those ideas to improve medical service quality, increase
job productivity, improve the effectiveness of treatment, reduce
healthcare costs while satisfying the needs of patients, improve the
effectiveness of care services, improve access to healthcare services
and simplify the process involved in delivering such services.
To create an environment that fosters innovation and creativity:
• Provide essential resources that can benefit being creative,
such as access to literature and using technology to research
and experiment.
• Encourage the chance for continuous education by providing
resources for developing professionally
• Encourage communication, which is vital in fostering
innovation and creativity. This is where the care team
members voice different thoughts and ideas. Each member
should value the role of another to help aid in the same goal
for that patient.
• Enforce collaboration. This team-building approach has a
flight of ideas, togetherness, and shared goals.
• Lead and set the tone: As a leader, I should consider my
approach and demonstrate innovation and creativity. (lead by
example)
Gao, L., Lu, Q., Hou, X., Ou, J., & Wang, M. (2022). Effectiveness of a
nursing innovation workshop at enhancing nurses' innovation abilities:
A quasi- experimental study. Nursing open, 9(1), 418–427.
