Methods of Reproduction
Asexual Reproduction
● Requires only one parent
● Offspring have 100% identical chromosomes to the parent (clones)
● Most unicellular organisms reproduce this way
● Involves mitosis
Types of Asexual Reproduction
1. Binary Fission
○ Bacteria, Protists
○ Every organelle is copied, and the organism splits into two
2. Vegetative Reproduction
○ A form of asexual reproduction in plants using multicellular structures
○ Used in horticulture and agriculture
3. Budding
○ New individual develops from an outgrowth of the parent, then splits off
