Discussion question: "Who is the nurse most accountable to: the patient, the family, or the
physician? How does a nurse balance these conflicting loyalties?"
~The nurse is always accountable to their PATIENT. As nurses we must promote, advocate for,
and strive to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient. A nurse balances these
competing loyalties by listening first before commenting, communicating effectively to avoid
misunderstandings and conflicts. Bring others in maybe, asking coworkers to resolve conflicts,
having adequate training, protocol, and communication strategies, providing evidence-based
care, and developing a trusting relationship.
ANA Provision 5:
~My thoughts on this article is that it is 100% true, and needs to be taken more seriously. We
started nursing school in August 2020 same year as COVID started and I really think the whole
career of nursing was different before COVID and I have heard it from many nurses in the
hospitals. How are you going to take care of someone else if you aren’t taking care of yourself?
BURNOUT is real, and our patients don’t deserve nurses that don’t care about their jobs because
they are so burnt out, and nurses also do not deserve to be worked until they despise their job
either.
