1. The Importance of Teaching Practice
Teaching practice is a crucial component of teacher education because it
bridges theoretical knowledge and authentic classroom realities. According to
Shulman (1987), the development of pedagogical content knowledge occurs
most effectively when student teachers engage directly with learners under
the guidance of experienced mentors. In my experience, the opportunity to
plan lessons, deliver content, and assess student understanding in a real
school environment fosters professional growth that cannot be achieved solely
through coursework. Teaching practice serves as a formative process that
exposes aspiring teachers to the complexity of classroom management,
diverse learning styles, and contextual factors affecting learners‘ performance.
Moreover, teaching practice empowers student teachers to develop reflective
habits. By analyzing the effectiveness of lesson plans and instructional
strategies, they identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
These reflections become a blueprint for future professional development
(Korthagen & Kessels, 1999). The guidance and feedback received from
mentor teachers and university supervisors during teaching practice ensure
that the theoretical frameworks encountered in teacher education programs
are translated into concrete applications.
In addition, the direct interaction with learners enriches one‘s empathy and
understanding of student needs. Meeting students from diverse
socioeconomic backgrounds and cultural contexts helps aspiring teachers
