#23- Acute arterial embolism symptoms- CHAPTER 26
, The Seven “P”s of Acute Arterial Embolism
1. Pistol shot (acute onset)-
a shotlike systolic sound heard over the femoral artery in high output states, especially aortic insu
fficiency; presumablydue to sudden stretching of the elastic wall of the artery.
2. Pallor
3. Polar (cold)
4. Pulselessness
5. Pain
6. Paresthesia
7. Paralysis
What causes arterial embolism?
An arterial embolism may be caused by one or more clots. The clots can get stuck in an artery
and block blood flow. The blockage starves tissues of blood and oxygen. This can result in
damage or tissue death (necrosis)
#24- Non modifiable factors for hypertension- CHAPTER 26
Risk Factors for Hypertension
v Modifiable
o Dietary factors
o Tobacco
o Alcohol consumption
o Obesity
o Sedentary lifestyle
o
v Nonmodifiable
o Age
o Gender and race
o Family history and genetics
#25 - DVT risks, complications- CHAPTER 26
Venous Insufficiency (DVT)
v Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
o Causes deformity of the valve leaflets
o At risk for pulmonary embolism
v Valvular incompetence
