Task 2: Picture-based Task
Instructions for the CANDIDATE
Instructions
• These preparation cards are designed to help you practice the Picture-
based Task from the GCSE Russian Speaking Exam.
• Each card contains an image along with questions that simulate the real
exam format.
• No notes are allowed on the actual exam stimulus card, but you may
take notes during preparation on a separate piece of paper.
• You should answer in full sentences and expand on your responses
where possible.
• You may ask for questions to be repeated, but you cannot ask for
additional vocabulary or help during the real exam.
• Do not read out pre-written sentences—the goal is to demonstrate
natural spoken Russian skills.
• Try to use a variety of tenses (past, present, future) and include
opinions with justifications to achieve a higher grade.
• The picture-based task is recommended to last between three to three-
and-a-half minutes.
How to Use These Cards
• Look at the picture and consider what is happening.
• Read through the questions and plan your answers.
• Speak your answers out loud or practice with a partner/teacher.
• Aim for clear pronunciation, varied vocabulary, and confident
responses.

Instructions
•You should begin the picture-based task by asking the candidate the
compulsory questions provided.
•You should ask the questions in the order given.
•The picture-based task is recommended to last between three to three-
and-a-half minutes.
•The set questions and comments must be asked exactly as they are
presented.
•Candidates must not read out whole, prepared sentences in answer to
questions.
•There must be no supplementary questions and no rephrasing.
•The statements/questions may be repeated, but no more than twice.
•The candidate must be allowed to develop their responses as much as
possible. To enable this, prompts have been provided for each question.
Only these exact prompts may be used. There must be no other
supplementary questions.
