Share 2 experiences when language barriers or differences
influenced how you communicated with others and how it
helped you appreciate the importance of understanding cultural
diversity. (6)

Here are experiences where language barriers or differences
influenced communication and highlighted the importance of
cultural diversity:
1. Misunderstanding Due to Direct vs. Indirect
Communication Styles
During a group project with international classmates, I noticed
that some students from high-context cultures (such as Japan
and China) preferred indirect communication, using hints and
suggestions rather than direct statements. Meanwhile, others
from low-context cultures (such as the United States and
Germany) were more straightforward. At first, this led to
misunderstandings about task delegation, as some group
members hesitated to express disagreement directly. This
experience taught me the importance of adapting to different
communication styles and being aware of cultural norms in
professional and academic settings.
2. Struggling with a Language Barrier While Traveling
