, Introduction:

This assignment explores key aspects of communication strategy development and
its importance within organisations. It covers various elements of communication,
such as the role of public relations practitioners in managing internal and external
communications, understanding the internal environment, and developing effective
strategies that align with organisational goals. Through the analysis of Spar, Clayville
in Gauteng, Ekhurhuleni Municipality, and general communication strategy
frameworks, this assignment seeks to highlight the functions of communication
practitioners and the factors that impact the creation and execution of
communication strategies in different organisational settings.

Question 01:

1.1 Strategy is a plan or method that an organisation uses to achieve its goals and
objectives. It’s important because it gives the organisation a clear direction to follow,
helps with decision-making, and enables efficient use of resources. Without a
strategy, an organisation can easily lose focus, waste resources, or struggle to
compete effectively (Jones, 2019).

1.2 Strategic planning is the process of deciding what an organisation wants to
achieve in the future, setting goals, and creating a detailed plan on how to reach
them. It is often done at the beginning of a business cycle (Smith & Roberts, 2021).
Strategic management, on the other hand, involves the ongoing process of
managing and adjusting the strategy once it is in place. It includes implementing the
strategy, monitoring progress, making changes if necessary, and ensuring that the
goals are being met (Jones, 2019).

1.3 An enterprise strategy refers to the overall plan that covers all areas of the
organisation. It focuses on long-term goals, company vision, and achieving success
on a broad scale. It includes the entire organisation’s direction, including all its
divisions and departments (Anderson, 2020). A business strategy, however, is
narrower and focuses on a specific part of the organisation, such as marketing,
sales, or product development. It is concerned with achieving goals within a
particular area or market, often to gain a competitive advantage (Davis, 2021).
