A licensed salon must - - ANS-•Be in compliance with all local and state laws, relating to the
matters of infection, control, health and safety
• employment of a manager
• evidence of compliance with Worker's Comp.
• evidence of continued professional liability insurance coverage of at least $25,000 for each
claim and $50,000 total coverage for each policy year for each operator
\About advertisement - ANS-•It is a violation to advertise or offer any board services from an
unlicensed salon or unlicensed practitioner
• any salon advertisement must list the license salon name, salons that use staff members
names in advertisement must list at least the first name of the licensee
• any individual practitioner advertising their license services must list their full name or name of
salon
• any practitioner leasing space in a license salon may advertise under their own business in full
name of practitioner is used
\Active License - ANS-A current license that has not expired and is not retired
\Advanced exfoliating - ANS-A cosmetic procedure removing epidermal skin cells through
manual, mechanical or chemical means
\Advanced extraction - ANS-An extraction performed using lancets or needles
\Advanced practice esthetician - ANS-A person who for compensation performs personal
services for the cosmetic care of the skin, including the use of mechanical or electrical skin care

\Aesthetician services consist of .... - ANS-• Cleansing, stimulating, exfoliating, massaging
persons scalp, face, neck, arms, legs and trunk with and without lotion
• cosmetic care of persons face, eyelashes, eyebrows, lips, nose, neck, arms, legs or trunk
using a cosmetic preparation, anti-septic, tonic, lotion, powder, oil, gel, paraffin
• Basic exfoliation, manual or machine skin cleansing and basic extractions
• removing hair from a persons body using diplo tors, waxes, preparations, sugaring or tweezing
• application of make up, airbrush makeup, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, eyebrow shaping,
eyebrow trimming, eyelash and eyebrow enhancements, facials, body wraps and other cosmetic
services on the stratum cornea layer of the epidermis
\Basic exfoliation - ANS-The removal of dead skin cells in the stratum corneum layer of the
epidermis through manual or chemical means
\Basic extractions - ANS-Extractions performed using gloved fingers, cotton swabs, or come
done extractions
, \Blood + body fluid exposure procedure - ANS-- must stop a service if an unexpected cut,
abrasion, or other injury occurs
• put on gloves
•rinse wound with running water
• clean wound with antiseptic & cover with bandage
•if wound occurs to yourself wear finger cover or glove
•if wound appears on client wear gloves on both hands
• place anything contaminated in plastic bag, seal it, discard bag
• before resuming any service remove any tools that came into contact with fluids
• clean/disinfect any contaminated surfaces
•wash hands with soap & water
• clean/disinfect any contaminated tools

solutions or products
\clean - ANS-Free from all soil, dirt, debris and wash with soap and water or a cleaning agent
and rinsed
\compensation - ANS-A monetary or non-monetary remuneration for services
\Continuing education credits for practioners - ANS-•A cosmetologist, nail technician,
aesthetician, advanced practice aesthetician, or salon manager renewing a license must
complete a total of EIGHT hours of continuing education. The eight hours must consist of one
hour pertaining to state cosmetology laws and rules and three hours related to health safety and
infection matters. The other four hours must consist of one or more of the following topics. 1.
Product chemistry and chemical interaction 2. Proper use of machines and instruments 3.
Business management professional ethics and human relations 4. Techniques relevant to the
type of license held by that practitioner
• Eyelash techs must complete a total of only FOUR hours of core CE credits- consisting of :
One hour of state cosmetology laws and rules and three hours of health, safety and infection
control matters
•The continuing education credits are valid for only one license renewal. But may be applied to
multiple licenses held by the same practitioner
• continuing education credits must be completed within the three years prior to the date of the
license renewal. Licensees must retain proof of completion of continuing education credits.
• an instructor must complete 45 hours including at least 30 hours in teaching methodology and
15 hours of clinical practices in the field of licensure
•licensee must maintain proof of continuing education credits for four years after date of class
