How did the stimulated experience of Andrew Davis case make you feel?

Beginning the simulation, I didn’t know what to expect as far as how we would interact with the
patient. I was a little uneasy given that we have multiple times to attempt assessment is
beneficial and made me feel better my first score was not good and I was worried that I wasn’t
prepared nor could complete the assessment.

Talk about what went well in the scenario.

Initially I went through, and I assessed everything in any order trying to get a feel of what need
to be done once I navigated my way through it felt like an actual interaction with a patient. I
know I will be nervous when I have my first live patient since I was nervous online although,
selecting the appropriate questions and interventions reassured that as with anything practice is
beneficial. If gives you the feel of responses to open ended questions as well as closed ended
questions and seeing how you are able to elaborate and better assess.

Reflecting on Andrew Davis’ case, were there any actions you would do differently? If so, what
were these actions and why? I would change the order in which I assessed him and the
questions that were asked. I think it will flow better and although all the information was
gathered it was a lot of going back and forth and that can upset a live patient.

What issues have you identified that could be barriers to a successful treatment for Andrew
Davis? He believes that family is supposed to stick together through thick and thin and he is
upset that they won’t talk to him. His frustration with the sensitivity to sound and having a
headache

How would you address the denial?
Denial is a common defense mechanism, and I should get a better understanding as to why he
feels this way and not judging him but finding ways to help him acknowledge the issue

Identify support groups that would be beneficial to Andrew Davis related to his position in the
community? AA, finding a sponsor to assist him and attend meetings with him, depending on
the church some have programs within he may want to find one outside of his church due to
bias

Identify support groups that would be beneficial to Andrew Davis family.
Al-Anon, ACOA
