Clinical Inquiry - Part Two
Advanced practice nurses need to be equipped with knowledge and requisite
skill set for searching for and locating current evidence-based practice
guidelines. Over the course of your nursing education you have learned how
to search scholarly literature and resources for evidence to support
discussions that you construct in assignments. Presented in this unit are key
concepts related to finding and evaluating published clinical practice
guidelines.
Unit Learning Objectives
Examine competencies observed in the advanced practice nurse
relative to locating and applying evidence to clinical care decisions
Explore and evaluate published clinical practice guidelines for
application to clinical care decision making
Assess and critique illustrative examples of the application of clinical
practice guidelines for clinical care decisions

Clinical Practice
Post a discussion constructed as the 'P' (treatment plan) that completes the
partial SOAP note accessed through the link below.
Include in the discussion:
1. Your treatment plan for the diagnosis that relates to the "chief
complaint" – structure your Plan using the format outlined in your
Typhon documentation policy (e.g. diagnostics, therapeutics,
educational, consultation/collaboration)
2. Citations for each of the guidelines/evidence used to support the
elements of your Plan
3. Construct a narrative discussion that identifies how your Plan
either aligns with or does not align with the diabetes management
regimen that is documented in the subjective data set (the 'S')
