- The Philippine Pediatric Society and the Department of Health separated adolescence:
o Early adolescence:
 10-13 years.
 Characterized by a growth spurt typically at the beginning of sexual maturation.
 Abstract thinking starts.
o Middle adolescence
 14-16 years.
 Main physical changes are complete, with the individual reaffirming strong sense
of identity.
 Reflective thinking starts.
o Late adolescence
 17-19 years.
 Body takes on an adult form. Individual now has a distinct identity

- Youth: According to Republic Act 8044, it is a critical period in one's growth and development
from the onset of adolescence towards the peak of mature, self-reliant and responsible
