Angular_cheilitis
• Lack of iron-rich foods (needed to make hgb).
S/S
• Fatigue, SOB, tachycardia, confusion,
• Dizziness, Paleness, Cold sensitivity
• Leg cramps, Pica, Cracked corners of mouth
Diagnosis--RBC, hgb, hct, iron levels. * Fecal occult test.
Treatment
• Iron supplements (PO, IM), Iron-rich foods
• Iron Supplements
• S/E: Tarry stools, constipation, nausea, heartburn
• fluids to reduce constipation.
• PO --Ferrous Sulfate—
• Empty stomach to reduce GI upset
• take with vit. C * not with dairy
• Liquid—straw, rinse mouth
• IM —Imferon--Z-track in a large muscle.
