Study guide Anatomy and Physiology
1. Anatomy v.s physiology- What’s the difference??
Anatomy = the “Map” of the body ( what it look like )
Physiology = how the body works ( its job)
Connection ? Structure determines function (ex: A heart is shaped to pump blood )
2. Levels of organization- how we’re built
( think of it like building a house)
1. Chemical level - tiny parts ( atoms, molecules like DNA)
2. Cellular level - the bricks ( cells = basic life unit )
3. Tissue level - group of bricks = walls ( cells working together)
4. Organ level - different tissue = rooms ( heart, lungs, stomach)
5. Organ system level - rooms working together = house function ( digestive system, nervous)
6. Organism level - the whole house ( you ,)
Mnemonic- Crazy Cats teach other operations often
3. Homeostasis- Body Balance system
What is it ? The body keeping everything stable
Example- keeping your temperature at 98.6F even in hot/ cold weather
Feedback systems-
Negative feedback - fixes the problem ( like sweating when hot )
Positive feedback - amplifies the change ( like contraction in child birth)
Remember- negative feedback = normal , positive feedback = push towards
4. Body direction & planes - Find your way
Anatomical position - stand straight, palms out, feet towards
Directional terms. ( think of GPS)
Superior = above ( head is superior to chest )
