EEG: Erasmus Behavioural Lab (EBL)

Overview

● EBL consists of 4 labs
● Red indicates lab is in use
● Participants wait in the waiting room monitored by researchers
via webcam
● Acquisition computer: uses BioSemi acquisition programme
“ActiView” for recording
● Stimulus presentation computer: presents stimuli (auditory,
visual etc). Can be programmed using E-Prime
● Stimulus presentation computer and acquisition computer are
connected together

Computers and Software

● Acquisition Computer: Uses the BioSemi acquisition program, ActiView, for recording
signals.
● Stimulus Presentation Computer: Displays stimuli (e.g., auditory, visual). These experiments
can be programmed using E-Prime.
● These two computers are connected

A/D Box

● Receives signals directly from electrodes.
● Sensitive to electrical noise; avoid placing
other devices nearby.

Electrodes

● Active Electrodes: Amplifier located on the electrode itself (unlike passive
electrodes). Types:
○ Pin Electrodes (fits in cap): Used individually or in ribbon cables.

○ Flat Electrodes (without cap): Record signals from flat surfaces (e.g.,
face, body parts) and reference signals behind the ears.

→ Lifespan: 1–1.5 years. Replace when pure silver components degrade.
