How did the source material stimulate your original research? What source prompted
your research question? - ✔✔The source that prompted our research was an article by
Eric Zerkel which focused on pollution around the world, and how it affects the
population and environment around us. This source made us question how our modern
way of life affects our health and the environment around us.
What information did you need before you began your research, and how did that
information shape your research? - ✔✔The information that that we needed to begin
our research was the basis and origin of pollution, and what it effects. When searching
for general pollution sources with the gale database many of the first articles that came
up focused on factory emissions. Knowing that smog due to factory pollution has been
a major problem in China, as assessed by Gloria Riviera with China registering off the
charts on the AQI we were intrigued to discover how this affected the people in the
area.
What evidence did you gather that you chose not to use? Why did you not use it? -
✔✔We were originally supposed to focus on ocean pollution. We had multiple sources

, related to this, one of which was by Noelle E. Selin on mercury exposure to American
seafood consumers. We decided to abandon this research because we directed our focus
onto land and air pollution which were in closer proximity to society.
How valid and reliable are the sources you've used? How do you know? Which sources
didn't work? - ✔✔We know what our sources are valid and reliable because we used
credible search engines such as gale and Ebsco, as well as peer reviewed journals with
information from the last 5 years. A source that did not work was a study in Serbia by
Ivan Stevanovic on asthma symptoms due to the local steel industry. We decided not to
use this study because some of the participants were smokers, and this in turn would
deviate accurate results.
How did you select the strategies you used to gather information or conduct research?
Were they effective? - ✔✔The strategies that we used to conduct research were use
reliable, peer reviewed, science based sources to ensure that all of our information was
reliable and effective. To ensure reliability, we conducted strategies CRAAP and
RAVEN on our sources. These strategies were effective because in this way we were
able to conduct proper research and provide reliable information incorporated into our
research paper and our multimedia presentation.
How did your research question evolve as you moved through the research process?
Did your research question go in a different direction? - ✔✔Our research question
originally focused on the environmental effects of ocean pollution. As we searched for
