1. Define a Group (1½ marks):
A group is defined as two or more individuals who interact with
each other, are interdependent, and share common goals or
interests. The individuals in a group influence each other and
engage in regular communication.

2. Formal Group (2 marks):
A formal group is a group that is established by an organization
or authority for a specific purpose or goal. The structure and
roles within a formal group are clearly defined, and there are
formal rules and expectations governing the group’s functioning.

, Example: A project team in an organization, where roles are
assigned (e.g., team leader, project manager, team members) and
the tasks are formalized to achieve specific objectives.

Informal Group (2½ marks):
An informal group is a group formed spontaneously based on
shared interests, relationships, or personal affinities. There is no
formal structure, and the group members come together
voluntarily without any official designation from an authority.
The norms, behaviors, and roles within an informal group
develop naturally over time.
Example: A group of colleagues who regularly meet for lunch
or social gatherings outside of work tasks. There is no formal
structure, and the group forms based on personal connections or
common interests.

3. Discuss what takes place during the Forming Stage of a
Group's Development:
During the forming stage, group members are introduced to one
another. In this initial stage, members typically feel unsure of
their roles and relationships within the group. There is a focus
on orientation, and members are usually polite and avoid
conflicts. The leader’s role is crucial as they guide the group
through the process of building trust and defining goals and
norms. Members are figuring out how to behave, who is in
charge, and how they will work together.
