Assignment B PPP Grammar lesson table – First conditional

NB Look at the model provided and make sure you understand what MFP refer to here. See Units 2 and 7. E.g. in 4. we do NOT mean 'What is the function of the lesson'!!!
1. What is the target form of the first If/when + present simple + will/won’t + verb
conditional (both clauses)? (F)
2. What is the model sentence you will elicit to The question that I would use to introduce this topic is “Who has been to the beach?”,
begin your presentation? “What weather is the best to go to the beach?”. This will introduce the topic and give a
direction as to what the conversation is about and will be easier to introduce the
conditional sentence
If it is sunny, we will go to the beach
If + Present simple, will + verb
3. What are the negative and question Model sentence in negative form: We won’t go to the beach if it’s not sunny
(interrogative) forms of your model sentence? Form: Present simple + will not/wont + if + verb
(You might find there is more than one Model sentence in question form: Will we go to the beach if it is sunny?
possibility, but you only need to show one Form: Will + subject + verb + present simple
negative and one question, then analyse the
forms)
4. What is the function? (M) Conditional sentences in English are used to talk about events and the results. It is used
to talk about the possible future events.
5. What do students need to know about the If it is sunny, we will go to the beach
pronunciation? (P)
(Think only about how the model sentence (Words below in bold are the important clauses for each example)
would normally be said)
In affirmative form the first conditional in the present tense is contracted by the if clause.
Eg: If it is sunny, we will go to the beach
The negative form is usually not contracted:
Eg: If it is not sunny, we won’t go to the beach

Intonation – words bolded above would be words that would have more stress in the
sentence to emphasise importance and introduce the difference between the two
different clauses, highlighting positive or negative phrases
6. What is the context I will use to introduce The introduction at the beginning of the lesson assists in covering the following:
the form? (M) Introducing topic, confirming the context example that we will be covering as well as
eliciting language from the students
