THE GUINEA FOWL – Totius
1 The wheelbarrow's screeching sound
2 he moaned out mournfully
3 while the twilight ring is rapidly descending,
4 the guinea fowl.
5 He seeks—and it is too late—
6 To him a comrade,
7 To live in a tree the loneliness
8 and night to wear.
9 Together, they will be in a shining leaf tree
10 half slaap, half awake, half dream,
11 And at the approach of perdition,
12 alone does not die.
13 I aimed, and with the bang
14 it fell a dead one;
15 the others fly with wild force
16 away in the night!
