Whole practice Practising the skill in its entirety.
Whole-part-whole practice The skill is practiced in its entirety, then broken down into
sub-routines, then practiced in its entirety again.
Progressive part practice Practicing the first part of the skill, then adding parts gradually.
Sometimes called chaining.
Massed practice Continuous, with no rest between sessions.
Varied practice Changing the practice type and the practice drills.
Distributed practice Includes rest intervals or breaks within the session.
Mental practice The skill is practiced internally by imagining what needs to be done in
