Some tips for IGCSE Physics Paper 6 Prepared by Teacher B.Y. (+60167700521)
Section A: To improve accuracy
1. For pendulum or when using stopwatch
Repeat experiment to get average reading
Put the rule near to the string while measuring the length
Increase the number of oscillations.
2. Taking a measurement.
Line of sight perpendicular to the scale of reading (for any cases when taking reading of a measurement)
Read the bottom of meniscus (when using measuring cylinder)
3. Experiment related to moment or to balance the mass (when need to get accurate position of center of
mass)
Take reading at both sides of cube/object and find mean (middle reading)
4. To reduce heat loss (for any experiments related of heating)
Wrap the container/beaker with wool (to reduce heat loss)
Shorten the heating time with bigger heater’s power
5. When using thermometer
Wait until reading stops rising before taking the reading
Stir the solutions
6. Experiments related to the light rays
Carry out experiment in a dark room.
Move lens to and fro slowly until sharp image is formed.
Make sure the object, light source and center of lens are at the same height/level
7. Experiments related to the light rays(when need to draw line of light rays)
Use thin pins
Ensure the pins are upright
Two pins further apart from each others (at least 5cm)
8. Minimizing heating effect of a current
Lower current
Increase resistance of a resistor
Switch off the current when not taking any measurements
