REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN TRAINING 1
DO NOT DUPLICATE – Property of Consultants for Children Inc.

,What is a Registered Behavior Technician™?
• An RBT™ is a paraprofessional who practices under the supervision of a BCBA™ or BCaBA™.
• The RBT’s primary responsibility is the direct implementation of treatment plans developed
by the supervisor.
• The RBT™ may also collect data and conduct certain types of assessments
• The RBT™ does not design intervention or assessment plans. It is the responsibility of the des-
ignated RBT™ supervisor to determine which tasks an RBT™ may perform as a function of his
or her training, experience, and competence.

Topics cover all areas outlined within the RBT™ Task List
• Measurement
• Assessment
• Skill Acquisition
• Behavior Reduction
• Documentation and Reporting
• Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice

What is the BACB™?
• The Behavior Analyst Certification Board™, Inc. (BACB™) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation
established in 1998 to meet professional credentialing needs identified by behavior analysts,
governments, and consumers of behavior analysis services.

Board Certified Behavior Analyst™ (BCBA™, BCBA-DTM)
• The BCBA™ and BCBA-D™ are independent practitioners who also may work as employees or
independent contractors for an organization
• The BCBA™ conducts descriptive and systematic behavioral assessments, including functional
analyses, and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results.
• The BCBA™ designs and supervises behavior analytic intervention and is able to effectively de-
velop and implement appropriate assessment and intervention methods for use in unfamiliar
situations and for a range of cases.
• BCBAs supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts™ and others who im-
plement behavior analytic interventions, such as RBT’s.

Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst™ (BCaBA™)
• The BCaBA™ conducts descriptive behavioral assessments and is able to interpret the results
and design ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions for clients

, • The BCaBA™ designs and oversees interventions in familiar cases (e.g., similar to those encoun-
tered during their training) that are consistent with the dimensions of applied behavior analysis
• The BCaBA™ is able to teach others to carry out interventions and supervise behavioral tech-
nicians once the BCaBA™ has demonstrated competency with the procedures involved under
the direct supervision of a BCBA™.

Chain of service delivery
• Whereas individuals with the BCBA™ and BCBA-D™ credentials are generally responsible for
service-delivery oversight, and individuals with the BCaBA™ credential generally operate in a
position assisting these supervisors, individuals with the RBT™ credential will be responsible
for implementing, not designing, the behavior plans designed by their supervisors

RBT™ role defined
