Task 3
A Two elements involved in developing the community-based
strategy in this scenario include 1) education & training: the
institutions provided health equity training and transparent
communication that systemic racism was occurring, and 2) race-
specific feedback for providers concerning treatments: the group
tracked data on care quality separated by race and provided follow-
up to the providers.
A1 These two elements are important because you must admit to
the problem before you can fix it, and feedback from the people who
are being harmed is essential to gain a better idea of what needs
fixing. The group of researchers and advocates educated and trained
the treatment providers on recognizing the signs of systemic racism
and stopping it in its tracks. The patients providing feedback in
patient focus groups are invaluable to acknowledging and terminating
racist behaviors.
B One health outcome of this strategy was that black patients went
from completing their cancer treatments 7% less times than white
patients, to black patients completing their cancer treatments 1.1%
less times. Meaning that black patients saw more cancer treatment
being completed than before.
B1 It is important to collect outcomes on strategies so we can see
statistical and numerical data on facts and trials. It is also important
to collect outcomes on strategies to see variables and why a strategy
may have failed. Without documentation and factual data, a study is
