2nd Sutra - ANSWER Yogash chitta vritti nirodhah



Yoga is the inhibition of the modifications of the mind



Why is the 2nd sutra important - ANSWER Because it is stilling the fluctuations of the
mind through the practice of yoga



Bikram Yoga - ANSWER Hot Yoga. Practiced in a 95-100 degree room which allows for
a loosening of tight muscles and profuse sweating which is thought to be cleansing. A
set series of 26 poses.



Kundalini Yoga - ANSWER Emphasis on the breath in conjunction with physical
movement with the purpose of freeing energy in the lower body and allowing it to move
upwards. Uses rapid repetitive movements rather than poses held for a long time. Often
led in call and response chanting.



Ashtanga Yoga - ANSWER Means 8 limbs. Fast paced intense style of yoga. A set
series of poses is performed always in the same order. Very physically demanding
because of the constant movement from one pose to the next. Power yoga. Power yoga
does not necessarily keep strictly to the set Ashtanga series.



Hatha Yoga - ANSWER General term that can encompass many of the physical types of
yoga. Slow paced and gentle. Provides a good introduction to the basic yoga poses.



Vinyasa Yoga - ANSWER General term used to describe many different types of
classes. Means breath-synchronized movement. Tends to be a more vigorous style
based on the performance of a series of postures called sun salutations. Movement is
matched to breath. Typically starts with a number of sun salutations to warm up the
body for more intense stretching that is done at the end.

Founders David Life and Sharon Gannon take inspiration from Ashtanga yoga and
emphasize chanting, meditation and spiritual teachings. Physically intense and often
include some chanting.



Forrest Yoga - ANSWER Headquartered in Santa Monica CA and taught my Ana
Forrest. Performance of vigorous asana sequences intended to strengthen and purify
the body and release pent up emotions and pain so that healing can begin. Intense
workout with an emphasis on abdominal strengthening and deep breathing.

wellness center in Stockbridge MA. Founded by Amrit Desai. A yoga practice with a
