A: Ice Blanket, do not give them food or water. While waiting for the paramedics
to arrive, initiate first aid. Move the person to an air-conditioned environment -- or
at least a cool, shady area -- and remove any unnecessary clothing. If possible, take
the person's core body temperature and initiate first aid to cool it to 101 to 102
degrees Fahrenheit. If no thermometers are available, don't hesitate to initiate first
aid.
You may also try these cooling strategies:
• Fan air over the patient while wetting his or her skin with water from a sponge or
garden hose.
• Apply ice packs to the patient's armpits, groin, neck, and back. Because these
areas are rich with blood vessels close to the skin, cooling them may reduce body
temperature.
• Immerse the patient in a shower or tub of cool water, or an ice bath.

Q: What is squelch used for on the radio? - ANSWER -A: In devices such as two-
way radios (also known as radiotelephones), the squelch can be adjusted with a
knob, others have push buttons or a sequence of button presses. This setting adjusts
the threshold at which signals will open (un-mute) the audio channel. Backing off
the control will turn on the audio, and the operator will hear white noise (also
called "static" or squelch noise) if there is no signal present. The usual operation is
to adjust the control until the channel just shuts off - then only a small threshold
signal is needed to turn on the speaker. However, if a weak signal is annoying, the
operator can adjust the squelch to open only when stronger signals are received.
