Make-up of the class (eg age, There are 10 mono-lingual learners, aged between six and eight who are all
strength / weaknesses, complete beginners. The class is an even mix of boys and girls. Strengths include
nationalities, mixed abilities) greetings and saying a few words in English such as numbers, colours, animals, for
example. They may not be familiar with the English alphabet or be able to read in
their first language.
Aims of the lesson The four seasons.
Secondary aims of the lesson Learners must be able to Identify specific seasons seen in pictures showing the
four seasons. Students must learn the name of each season. Students must know
at least one accompanying adjective for each season. Learners must be able to say
the target sentence.
Anticipated difficulties 1. The learners can be boisterous and sometimes prefer playing rather than
studying.
2. The school has very limited resources.
3. The class may have weak listening skills.
4. Learners may find my accent difficult to understand.
5. Not familiar with English alphabet or be able to read in their first language.
6. Learners could struggle with differentiating between warm/hot & cool/cold
Strategies to overcome difficulties 1. Make use of enjoyable activities that both burn off some energy while at the
same time aid in learning.
