P3: Explain own responsibilities and limitations on work experience placement
Before beginning my work experience placement, I was aware of both my responsibilities and
what I would not be expected to do. In the primary school, my duties would include tidying the
classroom, helping the children with their tasks while communicating effectively, and assisting
the teacher with any classroom activities. There are some things I wouldn’t be expected to do
such as teaching the children phonics etc, taking them to lunch or coming up with my own
classroom activities. Other responsibilities that I may need to do include making sure
equipment is stocked and in the right place; supervising when children are using sharp objects
and to also help children with their reading and writing when needed which might also improve
my own personal literacy and numeracy skills. During my work placement, I will be expected to
use professional and personal skills such as confidence, communicating well even with barriers
and learn how to handle equipment safely.
Other responsibilities:
1. Always keep my manner/behaviour and attitude professional. This means following and
respecting the organisation’s policies and procedures, wearing the correct uniform,
being punctual and showing the organisation my DBS.
2. Work together with members of staff and have a positive impact on the organisation’s
overall objective. Be patient, respectful, open-minded and ready to lend a hand to
others when necessary.
3. Learn and acquire real-world experience in the health and social care industry. Look for
opportunities to improve and learn skills and knowledge.
4. Follow the organisation’s health and safety regulations to prevent harm. Report to my
supervisor(s) if any there are any dangers or issues within the workplace.
5. Always maintain confidentiality. Keep sensitive information within the organisation and
must not share or discuss it with anyone.
My limitations during work experience:
1. Recognising the boundaries of my duties that I have been given. Never try to do tasks
that are outside the limits of my placement.
2. Acknowledge that my supervisor is watching over me. Before starting any jobs or tasks,
get their advice and guidance.
3. As a student participating in work experience, I might not have the power to decide on
important issues or bring about changes within the organisation.
