In this section i will be explaining how Inequality affects different groups in society. The
groups i have chosen to speak about is social class, sex and disability. And i will talk about
how ecomic and social and enviomental factors as well as prejuice, sterotyping, labelling
and discrimation and margination, can affect these groups.
- Social class
Social inequality is Social class. This is when people's income affects factors in their health
and environmental factors. This can affect inequality in terms such as ill health and
morbidity or life expectancy. People from higher social class live longer as they can afford
nutritious food as well as more private health checkups. People from poorer backgrounds
can't afford healthier food choices so result more to cancer or heart causing diseases such
as fatty food or high sugar. As well as that they can't afford health free from poverty
backgrounds therefore tend to go into crowded areas and inhalement of smoking and have
a higher risk of road traffic accidents. Furthermore as shown in incidents such as the black
report they cant afford to have private health care resulting in longer waiting times.
One way that social class faces inequality is via marginalisation. This means when people are
discriminated against and prevented from enjoying equal rights. For instance someone
facing poverty or in lower income may feel like they are out of the edge and don't belong in
private health care places, they may not want to go as they will feel out of place. Also in
places of high income health care that's private may come with limited payment plans
therefore encouraging discrimation. People from higher income in places such as healthcare
are also placed in line first and the rest are shifted to the back, this can lead to people being
out of place because there feel like there inferior to the others
Another way that social class can influence inequalities is via labelling. For example in
healthcare also people may be labeled as poor based on appearance or income, they may
be given the cheapest medication or treatment possible despite public services such as Nhs.

Another social inequality is sex. Sex is defined as the persons gender. Sex can be a social
ineqality that effects health because for example lifestyle factors, there is a higher death
rate for men which is linked with higher levels of cigarette smoking and drinking, which is
often seen as a bonding activity with men or status. Young men aged between 17 and 24 are
those at higher risk of falling into this smoking catogre.
