PE- Pickleball study guide Exam|
Complete Q’s and A’s
How did Pickle-ball get its name? - -The family who named the sport Pickle-
ball named it after their dog, Pickle. It was originally called "Pickle's ball" but
was shortened to the name we now know and use, Pickle-ball. This is
because the family's dog would steal the ball and hide it within bushes.

- Pickle-ball is a combination of which sports? - -ping-pong, tennis, and
badminton.

- Explain the "double bounce rule." - -each team must play first shot off a
bounce. In other words, this means that once the serve is taken, the team
who receives the ball has to let it bounce then hit it over the net to the other
team, who then also has to let it bounce once then hit it back over the net.
This is classed as two bounces, and then a volley can take place.

- Explain what it means to "volley" and what's the point of the non-volley
zone - -to "volley" the ball means to hit it in the air without first letting it
bounce. The "non-volley zone" is a seven foot zone with the purpose of
preventing players from executing smashes inside of this zone on each side
of the net.

- Explain how scoring works in Pickle-ball. For example, is there a point
scored on every serve? - -The points can be scored multiple ways.
- a point is earned with every serve no matter who serves it.
-If the serve is then classified as "good", then the server moves to the other
side of the court. If the serve is a fault , then the serve goes to the defense
immediately and the defense gets the point.

- List all the things that must happen for a serve to be considered "good." -
-it must:
-be underhand
- not hit the ground before you serve it
-go cross court
-have at least one foot behind the end line.
-no player can serve twice in a row
-players must rotate after each time they regain possession of the serve
-if the serve hits the net and goes over, that is defined as a let and you can
serve again without a point penalty.

- What does a player on the non-serving team signal they are not ready? - --
raising the paddle or non-paddle hand above their head
- turning their back to the server.
