REPRESENTATIONS OF DATA
What is an outlier?
- An outlier is an excessive cost that lies outside the overall sample of the information.
- There are a number of extraordinary ways of calculating outliers, relying on the nature of the
information and the calculations which you're asked to perform.
- A not unusual definition of an outlier is any price that is:
1) Greater than Q₃ + ok(Q₃ - Q₁)
2) Less than Q - k(Q₃ - Q₁)
- Some outlliers are legitimate values which could still be correct, but there are occasions whilst
an outlier need to be removed from the records on the grounds that its really an errors and it'd
be misleading to keep it in; those records values are known as anomalies.
What is an instance of finding outliers from a fixed of information?
What is any other instance of finding outliers from a set of facts?
How can anomalies arise?
- Anomalies can be the result of experimental or recording blunders, or could be facts values
which are not applicable to the research.
- The procedure of getting rid of anomalies from a facts set is called cleaning the records.
What are container plots?
- A container plot can be drawn to represent crucial capabilities of the records.
- It suggests the quartiles, most and minimum values and any outliers.
- Two sets of information may be compared using field plots.
- Outliers are marked with a cross on a box plot.
When can a cumulative frequency diagram be used?
- If you are given statistics in a grouped frequency desk, you're not able to find the exact values
of the median and quartiles.
- You can draw a cumulative frequency diagram and use it to help discover estimates for the
median, quartiles and percentiles.
