Christian art uses communication for the ablest possible expression.
Without the presuppositions of the God of Scripture, there can’t be art.
Experience is the greatness of truly Christian art. Chris Ofili's artwork:
The Holy Virgin Mary show us a media of communication, communion,
and enhanced common life. It’s an expression, pure and simple.
Freedom of speech man and his free expression is great. If some people
don’t want to see it, they don’t need to go to the exhibit.
The paintings themselves are very delicate abstractions and Chris
wanted to bring their beauty and decorativeness together with the
ugliness of dung so people can’t ever really feel comfortable with it. It’s
what people really want from black artists. The people who are attacking
this painting are attacking their own interpretation, not Chris's. We never
know what’s going to offend people.
