CANCER?
• Cancer that begins in the
colon (bowel or large
intestine) or rectum is
known as colorectal
cancer
– The colon is about 5
feet long.
– Colorectal cancer can
occur at any section of
the colon or the
rectum.
, PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
• Cancer of the colon and rectum always arises
from the epithelium lining of the intestine. Like
other types of cancer the cancer cells invade and
destroy normal tissues and extends it to
surrounding structures. Cancer cells may break
away from primary tumors and other history of
inflammatory bowel disease or polyps as at high
risk. The effect depend largely on the location of
the cancer
