,The GCSE Polish Higher Tier Paper 3 Reading exam for Wednesday 12 June 2024 (Afternoon) is
designed to assess your ability to understand and interpret written Polish in various contexts. The exam
typically lasts around 1 hour and includes a range of reading tasks, testing your ability to understand
different types of written texts, such as articles, advertisements, letters, or dialogues.
What is questioned in the exam:
The Reading exam for the Higher Tier usually includes a variety of question types that may focus on
your comprehension, analysis, and ability to infer meaning from different written texts.
1. Multiple Choice Questions:
o You will read a passage in Polish and then answer multiple-choice questions based on
the content. These questions test your general understanding of the text, and you will
need to choose the correct answer from a list of options. Example:
What is the main topic of the article?
Who is the person mentioned in the text?
2. Matching Tasks:
o In these tasks, you will match information from the text with a list of options. This could
include matching people to actions, places to descriptions, or sentences to their correct
meaning. Example:
Match the character in the text to their profession.
Match the event to the location described in the passage.
3. Short Answer Questions:
o You will be required to write short answers in Polish or English, depending on the task.
These questions may ask you to identify specific details from the text, such as names,
dates, or places. Example:
What time does the event in the text take place?
What is the author’s opinion on the topic discussed?
4. True/False/Not Given Questions:
o You may be asked to determine whether a statement based on the text is true, false, or
not mentioned. Example:
The author suggests that Poland is famous for its mountains. True/False/Not
Given.
5. Longer Answer Questions:
o These questions require you to provide more detailed responses. You may be asked to
summarize the text, explain the author's viewpoint, or give your opinion on the subject
of the reading. These questions assess your ability to understand deeper meanings, and
you may be asked to refer back to specific parts of the text to support your answer.
Example:
How does the author feel about the issue discussed in the article?
What is the main message of the text?
6. Vocabulary and Context Understanding:
o Some tasks will ask you to focus on the meaning of specific words or phrases in the
context of the passage. For example, you might be given a word in Polish and asked to
explain its meaning in English or provide a synonym in Polish based on the context of
the passage.

0 1 Walking in Aleje Ujazdowskie

W pogodny dzień Alejami Ujazdowskimi w Warszawie spacerowały tłumy ludzi.
Mieszkańcy spieszyli się, by nacieszyć się ostatnim wrześniowym słońcem. Za
niedługo trzeba się będzie ukryć w ciemnych domach i czekać całe pół roku,
aż warszawskie drzewa puszczą pierwsze wiosenne liście.
Środkiem ulicy jechały dorożki*, w których siedziały pięknie ubrane
panie w sukniach udekorowanych drogimi piórami. Modni panowie w
wysokich kapeluszach pozdrawiali znajomych.
Wśród spacerowiczów było wiele głodnych dzieci, sprzedających ostatnie
letnie kwiaty. Ich twarze były zmęczone i smutne.
Z daleka, uważnym okiem obserwował je mężczyzna. Szedł sam, w mundurze
i w czapce żołnierskiej. Jego zimny wzrok i poważna mina wzbudzały w
dzieciach strach.
