The GCSE Spanish Foundation Tier Paper 4 Writing exam is scheduled for Monday 10 June
2024 (Afternoon). This paper assesses your ability to produce written responses in Spanish. It
focuses on your ability to communicate effectively in writing using a basic range of vocabulary and
grammar at a foundation level.
Overview of the Exam:
The Foundation Tier Paper 4 Writing typically lasts for 1 hour and is designed to assess your
ability to write in Spanish at a foundational level. The exam includes a combination of short and
longer writing tasks, and the total marks available will be split across these tasks.
Structure of the Exam:
1. Part 1: Short Writing Tasks (30 minutes)
This section consists of several shorter writing tasks where you will need to write brief
responses to questions based on everyday topics. These questions typically require answers of
40-60 words.
Example tasks could include:
o Describe your family.
o What do you like to do in your free time?
o What is your favorite subject at school and why?
These questions will assess your ability to give basic information clearly, using simple
vocabulary and structures.
2. Part 2: Longer Writing Task (30 minutes)
The second part involves one longer writing task where you will need to write
approximately 90-120 words on a given topic. You will be required to choose between two
tasks and answer one of them in more detail.
Example topics could include:
o Describe a holiday you have had.
o Write about a typical day at school.
o Explain your favorite hobbies and why you enjoy them.
This section is more challenging, and you will need to provide more information, develop
your ideas, and use a wider range of vocabulary and structures.
