fetal distress s/s - ANSWER fetal tachycardia > 160 bpm, loss of variability, decreased fetal movement
spontaneous abortion - ANSWER death or expulsion of fetus or products of conception before age of
viability (20 weeks)
threatened abortion - ANSWER cervical os closed
s/s of spontaneous abortion - ANSWER brown/blood discharge to profuse vaginal bleeding with passage
of tissue or products of conception
spontaneous abortion diagnosis - ANSWER HCG, blood type and screen, Rh, transvaginal ultrasound
spontaneous abortion treatment - ANSWER RhoGAM to Rh negative patient, oxytocin to increase uterine
contraction, psych care for both parents
ectopic pregnancy - ANSWER embryo plants outside of the uterine cavity, most in fallopian tube; 6-12
weeks
ectopic pregnancy s/s - ANSWER sudden onset of severe pelvic pain, RADIATING TO SHOULDER, signs of
shock, possible vaginal bleeding
ectopic pregnancy diagnosis - ANSWER hCG+, CBC, transvaginal ultrasound
ectopic pregnancy treatments - ANSWER IVFs, RhoGAM if negative mom, surgery OR Methotrexate
(MTX) IM (only if no rupture)
