, Health: The Clockwork Model of Medicine:
Biomedical perspective
Health is defined as the body operating efficiently like a machine
→ Any breakdown means that it is not healthy

Linnaeus (18th century): classification, labeling of specific diseases which resulted in the
development of the clockwork model.

disease and illness = ziekte en kwalen
Disease: involves a set of signs and symptoms and medically diagnosed abnormalities.
Illness: how an individual experiences the disease.

Illness can be culturally specific and may have social, moral or psychological aspects.
Disease is more objective.
lekendiagnose (4)

The tradition of social medicine that has been more concerned with social and economic
factors that affect health. → But that does not work for the clockwork model !!!

The clockwork model ignores the social, psychological and spiritual aspects.
According to this: if a body is not diseased then it must be healthy.

Health is more than the absence of disease!

Studeren met Pim

Hoi! Mijn naam is Pim. Succes! Groet, Pim
