Psychology: the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting
behavior in a given context.
Eros & Thanatos = self-improvement and self-destruction
APA I = American Psychological Association (anyone can join)
APA II = American Psychiatric Association (only person who have a degree/license to prescribe
medicine)
Top Down = things you do know
Bottom Up= things you don’t know
IO = employee & boss relationship
HF (human factors) = employee & machine (ergonomics)
Types of Research
Experiment = cause
Correlation = comparison
Observation = strong
Controlled Observation = during experiment & correlation
Survey = weak
Meta-analysis = historical research (looking at research that has already been done)
Cross-sectional = quick, fast, immediate, cheap
Longitudinal = group of things/persons, long, in depth, expensive
IRB = Institutional Research Board
